Penny, Macy's, and Dillard's, the mall is also host to more than 140 other stores, boutique shops, specialty outlets, restaurants, and more crowd the mall's elegant concourse.  While St. Claire Square Mall might be the brightest gem in Fairview Heights' retail crown, it is hardly the only retail jewel sparkling in southern Illinois. An additional two hundred and fifty shop and restaurants, encompassing an additional two million square feet of selling space, are available at several other shopping centers including Marketplace Shopping Center, Pontiac Plaza, Crossroads Center, and Winchester Plaza. 

The last, Winchester Plaza, is anchored by one of the more popular eateries in town, Bandana's BBQ.  Bandana's serves up authentic southern BBQ to a clamoring throng of hungry shoppers seven days a week with great main courses and side dishes that keeps diners coming back for more. Another local favorite, Dandy Inn, began operation back in 1850 under the business name of Becherer's Tavern, and the nation's 16th-president, Abraham Lincoln, was reputedly as early patron of the southern Illinois drinking establishment. Today, the current owners have great food and good times on the menu and the place continues as a popular local watering hole.

Parks and Recreation

Fairview Heights residents don't have to worry about being shut inside when because the city's Park and Recreation Department operates a host of parks and facilities that offer engaging programs all year long. With two huge community parks, totaling two-hundred acres, and three neighborhood parks, the parks department also hosts a 16,000 square foot Recreational Center at ninety-acre Longacre Park. Located in nearby Belleville, Illinois, St. Elizabeth's is a 498-bed, general acute care facility, and Memorial Hospital is a full-service medical center boasting a state-of-the-art diagnostic imaging service, as well as, a staff of physicians that are highly trained in a bevy of medical specialties.

Situated a scant twelve miles from St. Louis, on the Illinois side of the Mississippi River, Fairview Heights is well served by a network of interstate highways that makes getting from Point A to Point B a  relative breeze. The I-64 bisects the city, east to west, while I-255, I-55, and I-70 are all within four-miles of town to take residents to all points of the compass. For those looking to access public transportation options, the St. Louis Metro Link runs the daily commuter to their jobs in the city.
