We Volunteered at Rosati Center

The Linda Frierdich Group Gives Back

Painting Units at Rosati Apartments for Semi-Independent Adults

Last week, members of The Linda Frierdich Group of Century 21 Advantage, out of Columbia, Illinois and St. Louis, Missouri volunteered time and labor at an apartment complex for semi-independent adults.  Referred to this organization through St. Patrick Center, one of Missouri’s largest providers of housing, employment, and health opportunities for people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless, the Group found time to donate for a few hours.  St. Patrick Center, through all their work, assist more than 5,700 people each year.  Their work is admirable to say the least, and that’s what inspired The Linda Frierdich Group to volunteer through that organization.  Thanksgiving was the perfect holiday to donate; while spending a significant amount of time being thankful for what we have, we also should be realizing that not everyone is quite as lucky.

So, the Monday before Thanksgiving, our Group headed down to the Rosati Apartments, where semi-independent adults are given the means to have their own apartments with all the amenities they desire, while still maintaining supervision and assistance that’s just a few steps away.  The mission of the program is to provide a therapeutic environment and stability to homeless adults with severe and persistent mental illness.  The organization provides techniques such as counseling, education, training, and medication compliance as the vehicles to rehabilitation.  Our project for the day was to completely paint two apartments in the complex, so that the residents there might have a freshened space to live in.   We arrived and split into two groups, so that we could get both rooms done in the amount of time we had available.  Contributing time to such a worthy organization left us all feeling grateful and self-reflective.  For all of us, it was a great way to start the Thanksgiving week.

The Linda Frierdich Group strives to help others often, because the feeling of brother and sisterhood are what make a community strong and vibrant.  If you are interested in learning more about what St. Patrick Center does and how you can help, as well, click here.  To learn more about the great things Rosati Apartments does, click here.  It’s always important to be thinking of ways to help others, especially during the holiday season.  To read about small ways that you can “give gratitude,” click here and be taken to a blog post that was written prior to Thanksgiving but still rings true for the holiday season, and all times of the year, really.

Things to Do in the Area this Weekend

by The Linda Frierdich Group - Century 21 Advantage

Events Happening this Weekend

This weekend brings on the last weekend before the official start of the holiday weekend, and there are so many events happening locally to help ring in the season!  Here are a few of the exciting things taking place in the Metro area this weekend!

Anheuser Busch Brewery Lights

This event, which is a huge hit in the St. Louis area, is back again this year, and it returns with a few added features!  Visitors can still enjoy the free self-guided tours down Pestalozzi Street and around the historic Anheuser-Busch Brewery.  Guests who are 21 and older receive a wristband for five 5oz samples of a variety of beers, and any hungry visitors can stop at one of the food stations in the Biergarten, where you can find a variety of dishes.  Visitors can also get a jump start on their holiday shopping, because there are a number of vendors selling crafted items at the Stella Artois Market.  New this year is the Bud Light Ice Rink, where skaters can glide along under the red glow of the Budweiser sign on the Bevo Packaging Plant.  Other attractions include the S’mores Station, sand and ice sculptures, and the chance to reserve a private fire pit for up to 8 guests, featuring wait service and 2 printed photos included in the price!

Missouri Botanical Garden’s Garden Glow

This popular event is a gem of a St. Louis tradition.  Though it only began in recent years, its popularity has caught on quick.  Visitors can walk through the Missouri Botanical Garden and view the gorgeous light display, surrounded by lovely plants and mature trees.  Along the path, visitors can find food and drink stations with a variety of drinks, including the ever popular holiday drinks hot chocolate and egg nog (while also featuring alcoholic beverages, as well).  Along the way, visitors can find themselves around an area with fire pits to gather ‘round while listening to the live carolers featured in this event.  If you have never been, it’d be a great year to give the Garden Glow a visit—you’ll likely make it part of your holiday tradition from here on out.

Yard Sale Fundraiser Helps Local Family

Yard Sale Fundraiser Helps Local Family

As many of you know, over the weekend, The Linda Frierdich Group of Century 21 Advantage, along with Midwest Carpet Cleaning & CKE Construction and Design, sponsored a fundraiser yard sale event for the family of a local young girl with Stage 4 cancer.  This event was a HUGE success, and we would like to take a moment to thank everyone who helped us along the way...

Two of our biggest thanks are extended to the other two businesses who helped us put on this event.  Midwest Carpet and CKE Construction and Design were there through it all, offering their time, business space, and hard work to the event.

Hope Christian Church- Thank you for letting us invade your parking lot for three days this week, and for all the volunteers you sent our way, as well as the baked goods your congregation contributed to the bake sale.  Having the location we had definitely played such a huge role in the success of this event.

Dr. Cangas & the staff at Illini Pediatrics- Thank you for your support, hard work, donations, and baked goods.  Dr. Cangas came out and volunteered to work the sale on Friday, and he was such a big help.  His team also brought us REALLY nice donations as well as a bunch of goodies for the bake sale.  I think it's worth noting, also, that we never solicited help from Dr. Cangas or his staff.  They heard about the event, and they contacted us to volunteer their time and donations. How awesome is that!?

The EMS crew, who brought us out boxes of gift bags for kids.  Thank you so much to the EMS who brought those out for us and showed their support for the community, but thank you, also, to the mystery donator who made up those gift bags and handmade the stuffed bears that were in them.  You are amazing!

Thank you to The Linda Frierdich Group- This team really came together, donating whatever time they could out of their busy schedules to make this event a success.  What an awesome team we have!

To the local businesses who donated items to the raffle:

Elements off Main

La Bella Rosa Boutique

Mill Street Treasures

Reifschneider's Grill and Grape

Rooster's Health Food

Elly Augustine - Independent Scentsy Consultant

Bad Sister Boutique

Philomena + Ruth

The Clothesline Boutique

Our House Cafe

Schneider's Quality Meats

Knott So Shabby

Tiny's Pub & Grill

Dear Diva Desserts

Our amazing community-

Thanks most of all to the people who donated items to our sale and came out to support this local family.  When you hear about a family going through what the Boyers are going through, your heart goes out to them, and the thought, "I wish I could do something" comes to mind.  This event gave the community a chance to do something, and the community came through, tenfold.  All the support, donations, both monetary and through sale items, have warmed our hearts beyond belief.  You make us PROUD to be members of a community that comes together to support one of our own in the way we did.  The sense of community displayed through this event is simply inspiring.

Songs4Soldiers Coming Up Next Month!

by The Linda Frierdich Real Estate Group

4th Annual Songs4Soldiers Gears Up for Another Successful Year

Coming up on September 10, Columbia will again be hosting the Songs4Soldiers Benefit Concert after much anticipation.  For those of you unfamiliar with the event, Songs4Soldiers is a benefit concert founded by Dustin Row (brother of our very own Sam Row!), an Iraq War veteran himself, with a mission of helping local combat veterans.  Since it was founded, the organization has dispersed $128,000 and helped 76 local veterans in need!  Rather than handing out cash, the organization works hard to ensure that the money donated goes directly to the needs of veterans, and it operates under complete transparency, meaning that those who donate can watch to see exactly how their donations helped those who have served our country.

The Linda Frierdich Real Estate Group is an avid supporter of Songs4Soldiers.  For the 2016 year, we donated the use of our billboard, so that the organization could make more people aware of the event through advertising.  We are also immensely proud of the money we raised for S4S in February, through our "Lock Box Linda" event.  Our Team tended bar at three local establishments, donating all tips to S4S.  With much gratitude to Tiny's, Who Dat's, and Merz on Main for allowing us to get behind their bars, as well as to the community for coming out to support this wonderful organization, we are proud to say that we were able to write a check to Songs4Soldiers for $4,000!

Songs4Soldiers is an event for everyone!  The event is family-friendly, featuring a "Kids Zone," complete with bounce houses, balloons, and interactive projects.  Since Songs4Soldiers features food and drink vendors from local bars and restaurants, your family can attend and feel good about supporting local businesses while you help local veterans.  It truly is a wonderful organization and an exciting event!  To learn more, you can visit songs4soldiersstl.org, or you can attend and see it for yourself!

We are proud to have this event so closely tied to our community, and as a donor, The Linda Frierdich Real Estate Group looks forward to seeing an even bigger turn-out this year than last!  We'll see you at the park!
